Seasons Change

By Alanna Nimau Vigil, MS, RD

Now that most areas of the country receive produce grown worldwide, we can easily obtain locally out-of-season produce. But allow me to make a case for buying in-season produce. By buying in-season produce you are more likely to purchase produce from local farms (or at least buy produce that has not traveled very far), eat tastier and fresher fruits and vegetables and save money since in-season produce is often cheaper.

Here are some winter-friendly options:

Almonds

Apples

Avocados

Broccoli

Grapefruit

Carrots

Cauliflower

Celery

Mushrooms

Parsnips

Pears

Navel Oranges

Spinach

Tangerines

Rutabagas

Turnips

Persimmons
